New Names for Belle Vue Mills Site
posted:11/01/2008

The naming of the individual buildings which make up the Belle Vue Mills development in the town has ensured an indelible link to the site’s historic past.

Developer Novo Homes has delved into the history books to select names which remember the site’s industrial heritage as a major spinning, weaving and cotton mill.

Sylko House, the smaller apartment and leisure unit at the rear of the development is named after Sylko, the actual thread manufactured by John Dewhurst and Sons, whilst Glista, a key component of the thread, gives its name to Glista Mill, the stunning apartment unit on Broughton Road.

The main atrium, which will be home to the majority of the retail units under an impressive glass roof, 40, one and two bedroom apartments and in excess of 20,000 sq ft. of office units, retains the name Belle Vue Mills.

Eller Beck which runs alongside the development is acknowledged in Eller House, a building providing mainly office accommodation and a large retail unit. The Town House and apartment unit adjacent to the Leeds-Liverpool canal is to be known as Brewery Wharf.

A spokesperson for Novo Homes said: ‘The names we have selected will ensure that the site’s wonderful past and the significant part it has played in the history of the town will not be forgotten.’

When fully complete the three acre site will provide a mixed use environment of 121 residential properties, varying sized office space and over 77,000 sq. ft. of retail outlets and leisure facilities. Parking for 292 vehicles is also proposed.

A real feature of the development is the secure access it enjoys to the towpath of the adjacent Leeds-Liverpool canal, whilst the private communal garden deck will be the perfect place for spending leisure time.

Prices currently start at £154,950 and more information can be obtained by visiting the on-site Marketing Suite on Broughton Road, which is laid out in the style of an apartment and showcases all the proposed fixtures and fittings.
